Capital.com, the London-based Retail FX and CFDs broker, has announced a significant leadership shake-up as part of its ongoing expansion strategy. Kypros Zoumidou, previously the firm’s Chief Commercial Officer, will step into the role of Group CEO with immediate effect, succeeding Peter Hetherington.

Zoumidou’s appointment comes as part of the company’s long-term succession planning. The outgoing CEO, Hetherington, will continue to offer his expertise as an advisor until 2026, providing strategic guidance during this transitional period.

Before joining Capital.com early in the previous year, Zoumidou held senior roles at the renowned UK online broker IG Group for 12 years. Notably, Hetherington also hailed from IG Group, having served as COO (2002-2015) and then CEO (2015-2018) before assuming his position at Capital.com.

Hetherington’s tenure as CEO, beginning in May 2022, saw Capital.com experience substantial growth. He reshaped the entire management team, with a significant number of senior hires coming from his former employer, IG Group.

This leadership transition denotes the successful conclusion of Capital.com’s initial expansion phase, with Zoumidou instrumental in this process over the last 18 months. As the new Group CEO, Zoumidou aims to extend the firm’s reach into emerging markets, prioritising innovative product development and strengthening technology infrastructure.

Viktor Prokopenya, Founder of Capital.com, expressed his gratitude towards Hetherington, praising his visionary leadership that propelled Capital.com into its next growth phase and established a solid foundation for his successor.

Speaking on his appointment, Zoumidou stated,

“I am very pleased to step up to the role of Group CEO of Capital.com. I aim to build on Peter’s success and bring further growth to the solid base we have built.”

Hetherington, expressing confidence in his successor, said, “Capital.com is well placed for future growth. I have full confidence in Kyp’s ability to lead the team and drive future growth.”
